Bio
Nayla Alcocer-Martos is a senior, in her last semester, at Florida International University (FIU). She is an Honors College student majoring in Sustainability and the Environment, minoring in Political Science, while also pursuing an accelerated master’s degree in Environmental Studies. Nayla advocates for the implementation of sustainable practices as Vice President of the FIU honors organization Green Campus Initiative. Most recently, she has worked towards the regulation of unnecessary single-use plastics on campus, as well as at the county, and state levels. Additionally, she has interned for FIU’s Office of University Sustainability.
This semester Nayla will serve as a legislative intern at the Office of Congresswoman Kathy Castor (FL – District 14). She hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of a congressional office and to further explore the area of environmental and climate policy. Through the Hamilton Scholars program, she will focus on advancing the university’s sustainability interests at the federal level. Overall, Nayla intends to develop her passion for sustainable development during her tenure in Washington, D.C.
