Bio

Katherine was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She is currently a Merit Scholarship recipient and Honors College Senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in International Relations and is pursuing Undergraduate Academic certificates in Human Rights and Political Transitions, and Civic Leadership. Katherine is passionate about supporting the most vulnerable in the community while valuing the importance of establishing equitable opportunities. Community outreach and service have become pillars of her upbringing and are what drive her future ambitions. Katherine is currently the Governmental Relations intern with the FIU in the Washington DC office, where she helps advocate for FIU’s federal priority themes and aids in appropriations and strategic planning initiatives. Katherine also served as an intern with the Office University of Sustainability at FIU and has interned with the ZooMiami Foundation under their Education department. She also served as an FIU Honors College Student Mentor and Fellow for the FIU Maurice A. Ferre Institute for Civic Leadership. As the current Assistant Program Manager and Facilitator for The Children’s Trust Youth Advisory Committee, Katherine helps lead and coordinate the program across six South Florida branches, aiding in organizing leadership, service, and advocacy-based field trips and activities, while mentoring high school youth in addressing the needs of our community. Katherine is interested in pursuing a career addressing the intersections between environmental justice, advocacy, and human rights
